Transitions: The Spirituality of Changing Times

Hot and Bothered in Thine Own Mind

Eileen FlanaganListen here

What are we to do when dealing with fear? “Be still and cool in thine own mind,” is a famous piece of advice from George Fox—though easier quoted than practiced, especially when we are in the midst of transition. Understanding and facing our fears can help to loosen their grip so we can face changes with openness and courage.

Eileen Flanagan is the author of The Wisdom to Know the Difference: When to Make a Change – and When to Let Go, a book on living the Serenity Prayer. She is a former Pendle Hill teacher, regular workshop leader, and assistant clerk of Chestnut Hill Meeting, where she carries a minute of religious service.
