The Way of the Artist

Keeping the Channel Open

7:30-9pm in the Barn.

La Verne Shelton Philosopher, musician, essayist, and poet, La Verne Shelton will tell the story of the growth of her rhapsodic relationship to poetry and photography since 2003, when a long poem was first given to her full-blown during silent worship. Her art and skill require her to be faithful to an ever-moving balance point: accurately rendering sacred images and song-without-tone as she first experiences them, while using the gifts and talents of her mind, eyes, ears, and heart as shaping instruments for transmitting divine intent to others. A large part of her spiritual discipline involves keeping her channels of divine leading healthy, open and clear, so that her words and images can sing God’s song with integrity and love. A Quaker by conviction since 1983, La Verne is a member of Madison, Wisconsin meeting and is currently Friend in Residence at Pendle Hill.
