Parker J. Palmer's Lecture: A Great People to Be Gathered: The View from Pendle Hill - Listen here"During the eleven years I spent at Pendle Hill (1974-85) as a student and then as a staff member, I had a chance to see at least a bit of what George Fox saw when he climbed England's Pendle Hill in 1652. A “great people” came through Pendle Hill while I was there, came as students, sojourners and conference attenders. Many of them were gathered in the spirit of the place – a spirit of worshiping, seeking, working, studying, and living together in community.
"In the twenty-five years since I left Pendle Hill, I have learned first-hand of hundreds of thousands of people who want and need everything Pendle Hill has to offer. In this talk, celebrating “the view from Pendle Hill” on the occasion of its 80th birthday, I will reflect on the transforming impact this Quaker living-learning community had on my vocation and on how I have tried to take some of the things I learned there into the larger world, where an even “greater” people wait to be gathered."
