Book Arts: A Creative Journey

Apr 1 - June 8, 2012 Spring 2012

Carol Sexton

In this course we will learn about the creative process as we make an artist journal and explore the spiritual practice of journaling with words and images. Working with beautiful handmade papers, fabrics, and paints, we will learn how to make and decorate our own book covers. Several different methods of making books by hand will be taught.

We will also stretch our concept of the book as an expressive art form as we sample a variety of activities related to book arts – collage, painting, drawing, printmaking, calligraphy, graphic design, and altered books. Course participants will work towards the creation of individual book projects which may take many different forms, such as an illustrated children’s story, a journal of art and poetry, a book of meditations, a collection of illuminated scripture texts, a scrapbook, a pop-up book, a scroll, or an altered book.

Tuesdays, 9:30-12:00
