Deep & Lasting Transformations: The Resident Program
After a term or more of study, work, and worship, students often emerge with renewed purpose and clarity about how they can use their talents to make a better life for themselves and others.
Resident Student (2008-2009)
“This has been a wonderful year of growth and learning for me. I am so much more clear about how I want to serve God, others, and myself and what it means to be in joyful connection in my daily life.”
Experiences that Change Lives: Workshops, Retreats & Short Courses
Your donations allow us to offer discounts to make these opportunities as affordable as possible.
Rebecca Wolfe, Rochester Monthly Meeting (NY)
"When I saw your workshop entitled, 'Playing in the Light: A Quaker Approach to Godly Play®', I knew I had to find some way to attend. With the combined support of my Monthly Meeting and the Pendle Hill scholarship fund, I was able to receive the training needed to start using this powerful curriculum with our Meeting's children as well as the children in New York Yearly Meeting Summer Sessions.
"It amazes me how one Pendle Hill workshop has touched the lives of so many children and given our families a valuable tool to discuss Quaker process, history and biblical stories together. Thank you for offering both the workshop and the financial assistance needed to help revitalize our religious education program!"
Reflection & Renewal: Personal Retreats & Sojourns
Sometimes people need time to explore in their own way on their own schedule. Sojourning makes this possible. Every year hundreds come and stay with us, sometimes for a night, sometimes for much longer.
Sojourner (2009)
“I came expecting to write. I did that, but I got so much more than I expected from this place and all of the people here!”
A New Generation of Leaders: Young Adult Leadership Development
Now in its eighteenth year, this program is made possible each summer by your donations. Twelve young adults between the age of 18 and 24 are selected each year from a pool of applicants to explore Quaker practices of faith and service during this seven-week program.
Sojourner (2009)
"After spending a week at Pendle Hill and interacting with the folks in the Young Adult Leadership Development (YALD) Program, I leave with a renewed hope and optimism for the future of the Religious Society of Friends.”
2009 YALD Participant
“YALD allowed me to bring all the parts of my personality and experience to the table, and discover how Spirit can transform and use each and every one of them.”
Spiritually Grounded Activism: Social Action-Social Witness Scholars (SASW)
The SASW Internship Program extends the concept of the YALD program to a full year experience and a focused period of training and service. Participants devote themselves to activist work in peace and social justice.
SASW Scholar (2007)
“I left knowing how to make choices and engage in work in a way that is true to my own history, present reality, and purpose, and true to what I believe is God’s plan for this time of my life.”
Radical Hospitality: Conference Center
Over a thousand people experience Pendle Hill each year by coming here with their school, Meeting, church or non-profit group.
Conference Service Client (2007)
”We are very happy with our overall experience at Pendle Hill. There is a real need for conference centers [like Pendle Hill] that protect the sacred space for worship and a worship-filled experience.”
Timely & Enduring Wisdom: Pendle Hill Pamphlets
Pendle Hill Pamphlets are brief, powerful essays concerning Quaker spiritual life, faith, thought, and witness.
Reader (2009)
“Richard Macy Kelly’s Three Ravens & Two Widows was life altering. Thank you.”
A Witness to Earthcare and Beauty: The Pendle Hill Campus
The beauty of Pendle Hill inspires healing and renewal. We care for 23 acres and 140 species of trees as well as flowering shrubs, spacious lawns, a pond, walking trails, and a large organic garden. Sojourner (2009)
“I appreciate your hard work keeping this ‘Island of Peace’ so beautiful, warm and hospitable.”
